<span>In my opening sequence I tried to express the film genre I used through the editing, and sound track chosen (Thriller). The conventions of the thriller genre are to do with sound and editing. An example of this may be: quick cuts and camera angle changes, music that gives tension. It can be to do with lighting, especially the use of shadows; mirrors and stairs are also conventions of thriller movies.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">Our opening sequence is aimed at the following groups; Young adults aged 15-17 male and female. This is because the opening sequence will draw attention to young adults because of the things they are influenced by. Few common examples may be stress with family due to parent separation, getting bullied because of the religious background/race you come from, financial stress because you have to provide for a younger brother or sister etc…</span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">I researched a few British film distribution, production companies. A few that I have found are: Vertigo Films, Distributor of London to Brighton, Bronson, The verve and Distributor of Red Road. I went on these companies’ websites and it is up to date and regularly updated. Vertigo Films would be the ideal company to distribute my opening sequence; this is because their target audience is aimed at people from 13-40 years which makes it convenient. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">The audience for my opening sequence would be people from the age range 15-17. This is because my film is based on a suicidal character going through a traumatic time which can relate to the age group that it’s aimed at. The film is aimed at both genders male and female. The location that I film in was a train station; this is because lots of suicides take place at train stations due to little security.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">The thing that attracted our audience was action suspense thrillers. Trying to make our film as realistic as possible was the aim, with all the recourses given. Also teenage years can be a real pain to get through and many teenagers feel suicidal. Making a film about a teenage suicidal character, could change the way a suicidal person feels. Making him/her know their death would do nothing but make people that are close to them feel sorrow.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">I have learnt many key words related to media that I never knew before and also know how to use the effectively. Also Youtube has been a great use of technology, this is because I had a chance to see many people’s media opening sequence and examine them for myself. The advantage of this and taking you time and you can see where they went wrong, and how you could correct the mistake.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">I think it was really convenient having the preliminary task, this is because I encountered a lot of problems filming and editing wise. However I had a lot of time to see where I went wrong and correct the issues I faced. The advantages was getting some type of experience on editing and filming before the actual opening task work; because I would defiantly encountered a bundle of problems, while doing so.</span></div>

This took me about 30min to make, I think I could have added a few extra tweaks here and there to make it have a better aesthetic look, but I was in a hurry so, I couldn’t add them as I was eager to finish it.<br />

I estimated it would take me around 30 minutes to make the intro, but it took me 1hour 30minutes because I tried different techniques to see what looked better.<br />
I used the following programs to make it: Cinema 4D R13, Adobe After Effects CS5 and Sony Vegas Pro 12<br />
<br />
In Cinema 4D I created the text and animated it, this was the main part of the intro giving everything a good aesthetic look.<br />
Here is a screenshot to give you a little understanding of what I did:<br />

Pictures., Columbia Pictures, DreamWorks Animation, P I X A R, 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios and Walt Disney Pictures.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I was thinking to make a production line with the name of, Flat Line Editing. However this was taken and wasn’t convenient because we were not editing. So I came up with Flash Films Productions. This was a good name because it wasn't taken and it was an original name and no one had a similar name to it.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">I thought about making it a still image, but then thought to myself it would look really boring, so I decided to make it a 5-7 seconds animation. As it would be unique in my class, because everyone was doing still images.</span></div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-91452798334122263502012-02-07T06:58:00.000-08:002012-02-10T06:59:16.597-08:00Filming Problem [Resolved]<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Today we filmed a part of the opening sequence of our film, as we were filming the weather start changing and it was getting darker as the evening was drawing closer and closer. This meant what we filmed couldn’t be used because of these big changes making such an impact on the footage we recorded.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">However I came up with an idea making it look like our character was going to the same place every day, making it look like we were filming on different days. Also we didn’t finish all the filming on the same day, and the next time my group met up to film one of our characters/actor was wearing different clothes, this was resolved by making it look like the character/actor was turning up on to the same venue on different days.</span></div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-57389320055308282822012-01-17T12:36:00.000-08:002012-02-13T12:36:53.724-08:00Analysing Other Media Films [Lesson]<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">In today’s lesson we analysed other peoples media films from other years and made notes on them exchanging ideas with the class on what the previous years could have done to make there film better. The films we watched had good storylines but obvious mistakes which they could have prevented, such as costumes that did suit the part the character played. Another problem was the non-diegetic sound, which was really good and fitted most of the situations they used them in. The problem was it was mixed with diegetic sound, this is because when there was a little background of the footage, it came into play over the non-diegetic sound making it pointless that they used the technique. This lesson was really helpful because it helped me see the main places a lot of thing goes wrong, so when I start filming and editing I can try my best to avoid them same errors. </div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-36294924940765787562012-01-06T13:17:00.000-08:002012-02-13T13:18:31.765-08:00Props<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">We are going to use suits to make the characters seem high classed. From this opening sequence you can tell this a type of police detective investigation movie.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">The opening sequence used a lot of camera movements. A few examples of these are the camera pans across the crime notes, just giving enough time for the audience to read them and get a understanding of what the film is about. There is also a lot of the camera technique ‘dutch angle’ used when showing a few images of the crime scene in the opening sequence, tracking from one image to another. In the opening sequence the camera is focused on the investigator the most this shows that the investigator can be one of the main leading characters in the film.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">Finally this opening sequence had some good diegetic sound to add to the film’s opening sequence. You could hear thunder in the background, this makes the audience feel as if they are part of the film and can build up suspense.</div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-65799198143830336492011-12-02T09:58:00.000-08:002012-01-03T10:00:21.396-08:00The Big Lebowski Opening Sequence<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiLxqJ00Yq_THGnB708byKPq_6G-ZiDJhDFvpL1o3zgzWTxR32HWz19JNncH8N7OvHdQ-Et7hO87W3GNhnB2LmgreBrYZ0nl8ByHlhxJJ4wY0yMOhzAbhghZs2tvQvwTpS3Ye335d7vEIf/s1600/the+big+lebowski.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiLxqJ00Yq_THGnB708byKPq_6G-ZiDJhDFvpL1o3zgzWTxR32HWz19JNncH8N7OvHdQ-Et7hO87W3GNhnB2LmgreBrYZ0nl8ByHlhxJJ4wY0yMOhzAbhghZs2tvQvwTpS3Ye335d7vEIf/s1600/the+big+lebowski.jpg" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b> </b>The Big Lebowski, Directed by Joel Coen, 1998</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">After the different shots of are/scenery are done, a clean 24 hour supermarket is shown. It is deserted when not a single person in sight accept from the character Big Lebowski, played by Jeff Bridges. He walks down the drinks aisle wearing a dirty bathroom robe and black sunglasses, this gives the audience a thought that he is really poor and doesn’t care what people think of him. He walks down the aisle looking for something in particular, he then see’s it and picks, out a carton of milk. He then goes to the cash out and then writes out a check even though the carton of milk only costs $0.69 this can give the audience an idea that he has no money because he can take the carton of milk and the check might bounce if he does not have any money in his account, and the supermarket won’t be able to do anything later on. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br />

Big Lebowski is pushed through the house heading straight into the bathroom and his head is then forced into the toilet while the man are constantly yelling saying where the money Lebowski that he owe their boss?</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">When the man pulls his head out to give him a chance to talk, Big Lebowski says “No one calls me Lebowski anymore, I’m the dude!” However the men are ignorant and don’t listen and dunk his head into the toilet a few more times before leaving, ending the opening sequence.</div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-19433070884470454652011-12-01T12:16:00.000-08:002011-12-10T12:17:25.757-08:00British Film Institute<div class="MsoNormal">On Wednesday 30th November my Media class, went on a trip to the BFI (British Film Institute). We learnt lots of techniques we could use in our opening sequences and other students from different schools were there, we were all contributing to one another and asking questions that helped most people there.</div><div class="MsoNormal">We meant a famous actor called Dexter Fletcher and he also gave us good ideas to put in our opening sequence. He was in quite a few films and a very popular TV show called ‘Misfits’ playing one of the main characters ‘Nathan’ dad. Dexter also told us to cover the following points as much as possible: Genre, Narrative, Character, Atmosphere and Setting. They gave us a few details to follow up at the BFI that would help us with our blogs and opening sequences. An example would be “Art of the title”, this is a website with lots of reviews that would help.</div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-72118429047757680682011-11-30T11:01:00.000-08:002012-06-06T09:40:08.043-07:00Wild Bill Opening Sequence<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Today I went on a trip to the BFI (British Film Institute) company and watched quite a few opening sequences. One film in particular was 'Wild Bill', that is due for release sometime next year in March 2012. The film looked really interesting because of how each character was introduced; giving little hints to what they did and how there lives were.<br />
<br />
The storyline is about a boy that looks after himself and then got the responsibility of looking after his younger brother as well. While the boy's older brother is in jail. Later on the brother in jail is released and decides he wants to change his life and give his son the youngest boy who is taken care of by his brother. Overall the film is a type of modern western, and will be a great film to watch.Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-44344929058810760272011-11-14T09:41:00.000-08:002012-06-06T15:00:36.525-07:00Writing EssaysIn my Media lessons I have started to write Essays, on movie opening sequences. You must talk about the films background such as if it was produced by Film 4, you would have to talk about the background of Film 4. Also you would have to go in depth and talk about the camera angle and editing techniques. You could also compare two films with another and compare the effects used in one film with another, and stating out points on what you agree with. The essays will help you to improve and write a perfect essay in the actual exam, it may also help if you knew a little about the film and wrote more in depth about it but that can all be chance.Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-86529133154707352942011-11-11T09:32:00.000-08:002012-06-06T09:39:07.539-07:00Media Lesson UpdatesSo far I have watched many film opening sequences for Media Studies. I have learn't why directors have to introduce certain characters in the first few minutes of the film because if they are kept waiting it won't have such an impact on the audience straight away. An example of this is the James Bond movies commonly known as 007. This is a good example to use because the actor that plays James Bond is always the first to be seen and has a high action sequence to begin the film and draw in the audience as much as they can when the film starts.Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-7917956746902375202011-11-10T09:30:00.000-08:002012-06-06T09:31:10.468-07:00The Bone Collector Opening Sequence<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

<div class="MsoNormal">
The opening sequence of the bone collector has a short
montage. In this montage we see images, Major headlines, phrases and pictures.
During the montage, the camera is tracking and panning over these phrases
and pictures. During the montage, Philip Noyce had chosen to have a high
pitched violin backing track. This made the montage seem very mysterious and
made the audience more tense and in suspense. <br />
After the montage, the camera pans across New York City. This could have also
been an establishing shot as the pan showed us where the film is set.<br />
After the pan, Denzil Washington's character appears. The camera follows
Denzil Washington's character and focuses on him when he appears
which indicates to the audience that he is a main character in the film. We
find that he has to go inside what seems to be a cave. His performance when he
walks showed some authority as he walked with no hesitation. Also he is walking
in the front which showed leadership. Furthermore, the camera angle on Denzil
Washington's character is a low angle shot which makes him seem mighty
compared to the others. When Denzil Washington's character gets to the end
of the tunnel, something drops from on top of him, the noise of the thing
splitting the cord above Denzil Washington's character made that bit seem
life like.<br />
Finally, after Denzil Washington's character gets hit, it goes black and
then suddenly opens to a birds eye view shot of Denzil Washington's character
in a hospital bed. The point of view shot adds to the effect of Denzil Washington's
character seeming weak. Also, there isn't any non-diegetic sounds whilst
Denzil Washington's character is in the hospital bed, all we can hear is
the heart beat monitor that Denzil Washington's character is hooled up to.
This is in complete contrast to how Denzil Washington's character was like
before he got hurt. I think this contrast was smartly shown by Philip Noyce and
I would love to use this idea for my groups opening sequence.</div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-26285557369776354152011-11-09T09:24:00.000-08:002012-06-06T09:25:38.919-07:00Barton Fink Opening Sequence<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The Coen
brothers are known for their interesting uses of Mise-en-scene.<br />
The first film I analysed with my class today is the film Barton Fink. In the
opening sequence we are following a rope being lowered which is a rope for the
red curtain in a theatre. We then are looking at a man holding a play
rolled up in his hand and just mesmerised by what seems to be a play he has
written being performed. We can tell this because he mouths the last line of the
play before the audience start cheering. Then two men come behind this
character who is Barton a play writer. We are then taken to a fancy restaurant
where Barton is quite reluctant to eat with the people at the table he is taken
to as he doesn't like what they are talking about and shows no emotions towards
them.<br />
There are a lot of interesting pieces of Mise-en-scene in this opening passage
of Barton Fink. When we are watching the rope come down, there is a sign that
comes up saying No Smoking, however the people controlling backstage are
smoking which creates irony and is something that I find quite amusing.<br />
The next useful and interesting piece of Mise-en-scene is the script held by
Barton. It shows how much he cares about his production and it shows that he
really gets into his plays. <br />
The costumes used throughout this opening sequence were mainly formal and upper
classed clothing, only the backstage work men were wearing tatty clothing.<br />
The most important piece of Mise-en-scene is when his producers come to stand
behind him after the play finishes. This shows he has the power but the
producers pay for his productions.<br />
Finally, the way that the Coen brothers make the character Barton act shows a
lot about his character. The script symbolized he thinks greatly about his
plays, the way he speaks differently to the others in a slow and none
emotional way shows he is his own person and when the producer for his play
read out a review on one of his plays, he tried stopping him as he doesn't like
boasting. This shows he is a cool, calm character who loves his plays and
nothing else.<br />
I would like to use the Coen Brothers style of Mise-en-scene in my groups
opening scene as they use Mise-en-scene to give a lot of meaning to background
and to characters which makes the film more interesting and symbolic.</span></div>

There are quite a few reasons we have decides to shoot out opening sequence at Wandsworth Common. A few reasons may be: It is busy but clear enough to film without any problems and because there will be trains going past every 5-10 minutes. The area is fairly empty at times so no interruptions will occur that we know of when we are filming. It will also be free to go to the station because there are no booths where you have to tap your oyster, so it is all free. Lastly our film idea will be realistic at a train station, and it will help bring a better effect on the audience.Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-74644824320060299832011-11-07T11:28:00.000-08:002011-12-10T11:29:23.036-08:00Production Company<h3 class="post-title entry-title"> </h3><div class="MsoNormal">Production Company names, Eg: Columbia pictures, Fox Films and Warner Bros etc... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlhRvo7-VI7EPrL9QIDp6ws9Tg0us40lhx2127umnYNE588_ACfsrrex4MfOd_QoCJHZaxOWC1na76prSao1pgcpRtvcgVCSWEWeGc8uHEoGLA9ASfgPH1Cd-nhH5futB7D6eu9blatWeq/" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlhRvo7-VI7EPrL9QIDp6ws9Tg0us40lhx2127umnYNE588_ACfsrrex4MfOd_QoCJHZaxOWC1na76prSao1pgcpRtvcgVCSWEWeGc8uHEoGLA9ASfgPH1Cd-nhH5futB7D6eu9blatWeq/" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha0WQCNG78fEreRQ6C0lp1f7D0R5w1ZXG5vRyyChh7h7otcaHlncC1Uvk4aBm408IsDh4uYbbBoGnZMBkG8vEbddO2jUV6mLW1rGlFVnbd9YaP_YZ9GcKg-70gm1oWSLviERb_eNQMrZFk/" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha0WQCNG78fEreRQ6C0lp1f7D0R5w1ZXG5vRyyChh7h7otcaHlncC1Uvk4aBm408IsDh4uYbbBoGnZMBkG8vEbddO2jUV6mLW1rGlFVnbd9YaP_YZ9GcKg-70gm1oWSLviERb_eNQMrZFk/" /></a> </div>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185436682436132896.post-67496112853224482692011-11-04T11:23:00.000-07:002011-12-10T11:23:35.970-08:00Hit Station Screen Play<a href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/73748266" style="-x-system-font: none; display: block; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,Sans-serif; font-size-adjust: none; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 12px auto 6px auto; text-decoration: underline;" title="View Hit Station Screenplay.docx1 on Scribd">Hit Station Screenplay.docx1</a><iframe class="scribd_iframe_embed" data-aspect-ratio="" data-auto-height="true" frameborder="0" height="600" id="doc_83607" scrolling="no" src="http://www.scribd.com/embeds/73748266/content?start_page=1&view_mode=list" width="100%"></iframe>Jaberhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06119656638162855933noreply@blogger.com0
